About Pair Go
Traditional pair go consists of a
team of one male and one female player playing
alternately against another team. This adds an extra
dimension to the game as no communication is allowed
between the team members. To find out more about pair
go see the Japan
Pair Go Association (JPGA) website.
In 2008 the World Pair Go Association
was formed, and the AGA became a member.
International
Pair Go
Each year the JPGA holds an
International Pair Go Championship (IPGC) in Tokyo.
Australia has been receiving an invitation every odd
numbered year since 2003, alternating with New
Zealand. The air fare, accommodation and meals have
been paid for by the JPGA until 2008.
In 2007 John Hardy and Amelia Gray of
the BGC represented Australia at the 18th IPGC in
Tokyo, and had a wonderful time. Read John's report on the tournament.
At this time no pair go tournaments are being
conducted in Australia.
Pair Go in
Brisbane
The BGC held its first ever pair go
tournament at the 2008 Christmas Party. Sixteen
participants played on 13 x 13 boards, which was a
great success. Chullho Rhee and Peter Hexel won the
event. The organisers used mysterious incantations,
plus smoke and mirrors to calculate the handicaps.
The losers consoled themselves with food and drink.
